Why in News?

• In order to transform iconic tourist destinations into internationally recognised travel destinations by 2026, the Ministry of Tourism has published the SASCI scheme’s operating guidelines.

SASCI: What is it?
• Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale is what SASCI stands for.
• It is a centrally funded program that uses innovation and capital investment to improve a few popular tourist destinations.

The Ministry’s Role:
• Carried out by the Indian government’s Ministry of Tourism.
• SASCI’s goal is to turn well-known Indian tourist spots into top-notch attractions.
• To increase worldwide competitiveness, draw in investments, and improve the entire travel experience.

Important Aspects of the Plan:
• All-encompassing Development: Emphasises immersive experiences, tourism services, and physical infrastructure.
• State-Led Execution: Initiatives are suggested and overseen by financial aid is provided by the Centre and state governments.
• Two-Year Completion Window: After approval, each project has to be put into action within 24 months.
• Strengthening the tourism value chain entails organising for carrying capacity, connectivity, ecological sustainability, branding, and site operations.
• Digital Promotion: India’s domestic and international campaigns, including social media and events, will be used to promote the sites.
