Why in News?

India has achieved a significant milestone in the defense sector. On June 11, the indigenously developed hybrid vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone “Rudrastra” was successfully tested at the Pokhran range.

This drone can cover a distance of more than 170 kilometers and can hit the target accurately.
The Rudrastra Advanced Hybrid VTOL Drone is a state-of-the-art indigenously developed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), developed by Nagpur-based Solar Aerospace and Defence Limited (SADL).
It combines the facility of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) with fixed-wing cruise
Key Features and Technical Details
Hybrid VTOL Design: It has six lift rotors for vertical flight and a pusher propeller at the rear for moving forward.
Can fly for about 1.5 hours.
Operational Range: Capable of locating and eliminating targets at ranges of over 50 km.
Engine Testing:
Successfully completed taxi and ground run trials with indigenous 180–220 HP engines in early 2025.

Payload and Weapon System:

8 kg precision-guided warhead suitable for lightly armored and manned targets.
Features dual-channel EO/IR camera, laser designator, and encrypted live video feed.

Autonomous and Tactical Capabilities:

Can automatically return to base after performing missions based on “Find-Fix-Finish” tactics.

2025 की शुरुआत में स्वदेशी 180–220 HP इंजन के साथ टैक्सी और ग्राउंड रन ट्रायल भी सफलतापूर्वक पूरे किए।

8 किलोग्राम का सटीक-निर्देशित वारहेड जो हल्के बख्तरबंद और जनशक्ति वाले लक्ष्यों के लिए उपयुक्त है।
